Gas BBQ troubleshooting

Modified on Tue, 26 Aug at 5:00 PM

Irregular/low burner issues,

Reason: excess sealant in the system that clogs the jets that feed the burner bars.

Solution: remove the burner bars and poke a pin in the hole of the jet to clear them

Ignition:

Reason: when new can occasionally be temperamental which we assume is a residue on the element

Solution: turn vigorously all knobs moving left to right, then right to left, one spark is generally enough to light all bars, after the first proper use and everything has warmed/ burnt off the issue should be resolved or improve on further uses

Regulator issues:

Reason A cracked or damaged regulator can restrict gas flow.

Solution: Replace if necessary.

Gas supply:

Reason: No gas being delivered

Solution Ensure the tank is full and properly connected. Check with alternative tank if available

Yellow or Orange Flame

Reason : Not enough airflow / obstructions

Solution Clean burner bars remove debris such as spiders that hay have made a nest  in the tubes and ensure proper airflow and clean the grill regularly.

How to Check for leaks. Perform a Bubble Test on a Gas BBQ

A spray bottle or bowl

Water

Dish soap

A cloth or sponge (optional)

 Step-by-Step Instructions :

1.Mix the Solution

Combine water and a few drops of dish soap in a spray bottle or bowl. Shake or stir gently to mix.

2.Turn On the Gas (But Don’t light It!)

Open the gas valve on your propane tank or natural gas line slightly to allow pressure into the system — do not ignite the BBQ.

3.Apply the Soapy Water

Spray or dab the soapy solution generously onto all gas connections, including:

Regulator

Hose connections

Valve joints

Burner connections

4.Watch for Bubbles

If you see bubbles forming and growing, that indicates a gas leak at that spot.

5.Turn Off the Gas Immediately

If a leak is detected, shut off the gas supply right away.

6.Tighten or Replace

Try tightening the connection. If bubbles still appear, you may need to replace the hose, regulator, or other faulty parts.

7.Retest

After making adjustments, repeat the bubble test to ensure the leak is resolved.
